ZipPassword details

  • Description

from the doc: 'zipPassword has fantastic search speed: up to 1,000,000,000 passwords per minute! yes, a billion passwords per minute (over 10,000,000 passwords per second). As of 7/9/2000 it's the world's fastest password recovery program, up to 3 times faster than the best competitor's software. Known plainext attack is implemented. So, if you have unencrypted copy of any file from the archive, you can decrypt entire archive instantly regardless of the password length. Easy to use. Just select the archive zipPassword able to handle archives containing only one encrypted file ZIP files created by various software packages and all compression modes are supported. Self-extracting archives are supported The program is highly customizable: you can control and tune recovery process. Dictionary-based attack and hybrid dictionary is available You can interrupt the program and resume recovery process later. Smart-Force Technology support ZipPassword able to recover lost or forgotten password to pkzip/WinZip archives. To run the program you need MFC v4.0 run-time DLLs (mfc40.dll and msvcrt40.dll). These DLLs are quite common, most probably you already have them. You can download these DLLs from http://soft4you.com/vitas/dll.htm if necessary. There are three methods to recover your data. First two methods brute-force attack and dictionary search are well-known. Although ZipPassword is really fast (over 10,000,000 passwords per second), password recovery may take a lot of time. If lost password is long, recovery time would be inappropriate (like years, centuries,...). This problem is of global nature - in general, protection in ZIP archives is complex and quite safe. Please visit http://soft4you.com/vitas/psw.htm to find more information about password recovery. At http://soft4you.com/vitas/pswcalc.htm you can find "Password Calculator". Using Password Calculator you can estimate required recovery time for specific situation. In the second version of ZipPassword new recovery method - so-called "Known Plain Text Attack" - has been implemented. You must have at least one file from encrypted ZIP archive in unencrypted form to perform this attack. For example, if your archive contains hundreds of files and one of these files may be found elsewhere, you can use this file as a source for "Known Plain Text Attack" and decrypt all other files. "Known Plain Text Attack" takes a few hours maximum regardless of password length. Note that using "Known Plain Text Attack" you can decrypt your archive but you can NOT find the password. To proceed "Known Plain Text Attack" you should provide ZipPassword with another archive (without password) that contains at least one file from the encrypted archive. Note that WinZip has several compression modes (Maximum, Normal, Fast and super fast). The file in the second must be compressed in the same mode. DEMO version able to recover short passwords only (up to 3 characters).Zip archive may contain files with different passwords. Current version of zipPassword unable to handle such archives properly.Once you selected ZIP archive to crack, wizard will appear. The wizard helps you to setup search parameters. There two main modes: Automatic and User-defined. In Automatic mode zipPassword will perform search automatically. You can use "User-defined" mode for fine-tuning search options especially if you have some information about password nature.
